Exceptional cases of reading In Russian there are combinations of letters reading of which does not conform to the rules described in previous parts:- сч, жч [sch] : счётчик , мужчина
- вств [stv] : здравствуйте
- стн [sn] : известный
- здн [zn] : поздно
- чн [shn] in the word конечно
- чт [sht] in the word что
- тс [ts] : детский
- in the Russian word сегодня and in the endings -ого and -его of pronouns and adjectives, letter г is read as [v] :
сегодня - today
книга известного писателя - the book of a famous writer
около этого дома - near this house
- in words borrowed from other languages consonants may remain hard before letter е: теннис , компьютер .
