My name is Elene Mostovaya, I'm a teacher of Russian, native speaker. Together with a few travelling agencies I organize tours through Russia during which my students (normally 2 or 3 at the same time) join the group of Russians and learn both the language and the culture of the country. I provide grammar teaching, special exercises and overall help.
Different types of tours are possible: cultural and historical places, bus and train tours, horse tours, etc in different parts of Russia (by your choice, we are very flexible). Normal duration is 7-14 days. Practice shows it is enough since in such environment learning process goes efficiently and with tiny effort in contrary to boring classroom and the necessity of hard work.
Making new friends and getting interesting experience are th...

I can read very slowly in Russian and I am trying to speed up. What is holding me back are the Russian letters that look similar to English letters but have different sounds. The letters-- such as x, у, г(looks like an r), я, and especially р- just look too familiar. Is there a way I can better learn to associate these with Russian sounds when I am reading?
Thanks
carolgreen737 - Also, we recommend you to read Russian texts aloud, one text several times. You can find texts for reading

I want my 4 yr old (adopted from Russia) to learn Russian. I brought him home at 13 mths so he doesn't know the language. I have Rosetta Stone but he really doesn't like doing it. Any other thoughts? I know that immersion is the best option and having other people speak it to him is the best option, but right now I want him to hear it and at least get used to hearing it.
Thanks as always for the many helpful responses.
amiron - Hello! Immersion is really the best option, but I think it would be extremely hard to create such conditions if you don't live in Russia. I know several families that live in Europe and one of the parents (mother or father) is Russian. Only a few children can hardly ...

I use "Google translate". It is free, user friendly and easy to download from Google. It is not gramatically correct but it gets the message across.

Complaints about non-delivery reached Beijing: hospitals and kindergartens in Leningard, for instance, were out of rice in the middle of winter.
Жалобы (nominative) в недостаьки(instrumental) достигала бегинь(prepositional): больницы и детской в Ленинграде (prepositional), например, были наскончился рисови за посреди в зимe (prepostional).
I admit this is very very confusing for me. Nonetheless, after your corrections the rest would shed more light..
Maria... - Пекином были получены претензии по непоставке. В середине зимы, к примеру, больницы и детские сады Ленинграда испытывали нехватку риса.
It is more or less close. However, for a quality translation I'd prefer to have a context, a few sentences before and after the pa...

Is there a large Russian community in Dubai? I noticed some Belarussian ladies but I think they were more 'ladies of the night' I'd like to improve on my basic Russian and at this stage I'm not sure if my employer will have measures in place to assist with tutoring.

Learn Russian from music!
Thanks for visiting and thanks for listening. This will be a companion to the popular "Let's learn to read Russian signs" thread. They will be designed to compliment each other.
One summer afternoon the lady who would one day be my wife and I were going somewhere and we'd gotten off the bus and were walking along a busy street. She stopped, pointed to one of the many advertising signs and said, "read it to me. In Russian."
I did, but it was a halting struggle.
She turned meet me face to face and asked, "are you serious about learning to speak Russian, and to speak without accent?" I said yes.
Then I'll teach you, was her reply. But you must do what I ask, including singing in public.
Singing, I asked?
You have beautiful voice. You are ...
